Why DuraMax Uses Complete Roofing Systems

Most roofing problems don't start with shingles.

They start with:

  • Improper ventilation
  • Missing ice and water barrier
  • Poor underlayment
  • Improper flashing

That's why we install complete Owens Corning roofing systems not just shingles. Every layer works together as a single, engineered system built to handle whatever the Mid Hudson Valley throws at it.

Anyone can install shingles over damage. At DuraMax Roofing & Exteriors, we fix what's underneath first.

Why Certified Installation Matters

Here's something most homeowners don't realize: any roofer can walk into a supply house and buy Owens Corning shingles. The shingles are the same. But the installation? That's where everything changes.

Not all roofers are the same.

  • Any roofer can purchase Owens Corning shingles — certification is not required to buy them.
  • Not every roofer is trained or certified in how to properly install them.
  • Certified contractors must follow strict manufacturer installation specifications — the exact methods that make the warranty valid.
  • Proper installation is what separates a roof that lasts 50 years from one that fails at 10.

At DuraMax Roofing & Exteriors, we go the extra mile to be annually trained and certified at the highest level that Owens Corning offers. Earning this certification isn't easy — it requires thorough training each year, full insurance, and an outstanding, verifiable reputation. Only a select few contractors across the country are approved at this level.

We make it a priority because we believe the Mid Hudson Valley deserves roofers who are held to the highest standard — not just the ones who show up with a truck and some shingles.

A quality roof starts with a solid foundation. That's why DuraMax Roofing & Exteriors repairs what's underneath before installing what's on top.

You'll Get The Best Roofing Warranty In The Industry

Because DuraMax Roofing & Exteriors is an Owens Corning Certified Installer, we can offer our customers two levels of Owens Corning's industry-leading warranty coverage. Not all roofing warranties are created equal. Some only cover the product itself, leaving you on the hook for labor and disposal costs that can run into the thousands.

Standard

System Protection

  • 2 Year WorkmanshipCoverage for installation-related issues for 2 years after your roof is installed.
  • 50 Year Material WarrantyHalf a century of coverage on Owens Corning roofing materials.
Our Best

Preferred Protection

  • 10 Year WorkmanshipExtended coverage for labor and installation — 5x longer than the standard warranty.
  • 50 Year Material WarrantyThe same trusted 50-year Owens Corning material coverage.

What does workmanship mean? Workmanship coverage protects you against problems caused by how the roof was installed, not just the materials themselves. If a shingle lifts because of an improper nail pattern, or a leak develops because of how the flashing was set, workmanship coverage has you covered. It's the warranty on the skill of the installer, not just the product they installed. Because we're a certified installer, we're able to back our work with this coverage. Most uncertified roofers cannot.

Roofing Components

Owens Corning's industry-leading quality doesn't just stop at the shingle level. Every component in the Total Protection Roofing System is purpose-built and tested to work as one, from the very first layer of protection at the deck all the way through to the ridge.

Roofing Terms Made Simple

We believe an informed homeowner makes the best decisions. Here are some of the terms you'll hear during your roofing project.

Underlayment
A protective layer installed directly on the roof deck, underneath the shingles. It's your roof's second line of defense against water intrusion if a shingle is ever damaged.
Ice and Water Barrier
A self-adhesive waterproofing membrane placed in vulnerable areas like valleys and eaves. It prevents water from backing up under shingles during ice dams or heavy rain.
Decking / Roof Deck
The flat wooden boards (usually plywood or OSB) that form the base of your roof. Everything else — underlayment, shingles — is installed on top of this layer.
Flashing
Thin pieces of metal installed around chimneys, skylights, vents, and roof valleys. Flashing redirects water away from seams and joints where leaks most commonly occur.
Ridge
The very top peak of your roof where two sloping sides meet. Ridge shingles cap this area and are also where exhaust vents are typically installed.
Eave
The lowest edge of the roof that overhangs the walls of your home. Eaves are a common entry point for ice dams and wind-driven rain, which is why ice and water barrier is always applied here.
Soffit and Fascia
The soffit is the underside of your roof overhang. The fascia is the vertical board at the edge. Together they close off the eave and are often where intake vents are installed.
Ventilation (Intake vs. Exhaust)
A balanced ventilation system pulls fresh air in at the eaves (intake) and releases hot, moist air at the ridge (exhaust). Without it, heat and moisture build up and shorten the life of your entire roof.
Starter Strip
The first course of shingles or shingle-like product installed along the eaves and rakes before the main shingles go on. It creates a sealed foundation for every row above it.
Hip
A sloped ridge that runs diagonally from the peak down to a corner of the house, as opposed to a flat gable end. Hip roofs require special cap shingles along these angled lines.
Ice Dam
A ridge of ice that forms at the edge of a roof, preventing melting snow from draining. Water backs up behind the dam and can seep under shingles. Proper insulation, ventilation, and ice and water barrier prevent this.
Workmanship Warranty
Coverage that protects you if a problem occurs because of how the roof was installed, not just what it was made of. Only certified installers like DuraMax can offer extended workmanship coverage through Owens Corning.
